You can be very tempting to give up on holidays with a good sense of healthy eating.  Although you may try to eat healthy, drift off and grab an ice cream cone here and there, it's simple.  There are, however, ways to watch what you eat on holiday.

It's easier than ever to ask for a low fat or vegetarian meal on airplane flights.  Looking for healthy food can get a little more complicated if you choose to drive to your destination instead.

Put some nutritious foods in a cooler pack of ice packs instead of just relying on fatty foods for nutrition.  Fruit and vegetables, crackers, yoghurt and sandwiches are all good things to have along the road with you.

Once you arrive at your hotel, you should do yourself a favor and turn down the minibar key, as this helps to avoid the temptation.  If you have a continental breakfast in your home, stick to fruit, cereals and protein.  If you have a stove or microwave at home, consider bringing your own healthy food.

If you just have to eat out, just do it when you're hungry.  Restaurants prefer to serve a lot of portions, so be careful.  If you're going over a meal, just cut it back on the next one.

If you find it difficult to fit into three square meals a day, try making six smaller meals or snacks, because your body needs food every four hours. Skip the appetizers when you dine out.  Don't miss any food, no matter what you do.

You should avoid eating big meals at night when that's possible.  As the body slows down and is ready for sleep, it also burns calories at a much slower pace.  Never eat bread in front of your bed, and make sure you avoid butter.  Then pick some fish or poultry for dinner, and include vegetables as a side dish.

Even though it might sound hard, it's not that hard to eat healthy on vacation.  All you've got to do is use a little force of will, and pass on food that you know isn't good for you.  That way, wherever you go, you'll enjoy healthy food and a healthy lifestyle.

The next time you're on vacation, keep in mind that eating healthy is a way of life.  You can afford to get something you want, even if you're not supposed to make it a habit.  I hope it helps.
