1.  Stay free of junk food. The easiest way to shop is to shop on your own, because generally children and sometimes partners are the ones who ask for junk food.  Shopping alone is going to avoid that, so make sure you only buy the food you need.

2.  Water or milk, not a soft drink. At a sporting event or evening out, you can still enjoy your favorite drinks, even though you should stick to the smallest size to save time and calories while shopping.  Children and even adults require milk or milk products on a daily basis.  Milk will also help you grow stronger and provide calcium to healthy bones and teeth.

3.  Buy a lot of fruit with you. Buy fruit in quantity when it's in season and freeze any excess.  That way, you can buy a few pounds and freeze more to get them when the fruit goes out of season.  Wash the fruit well, remove any rotten parts, dry thoroughly and freeze in plastic zipper bags.

4.  Meat and Beans. Meats and beans are the best source of protein.
Lean meat is more expensive than fat-intensive meat.  Canned beans are a lot, too, because they give you protein at a great price.

5.  Beans as a substitute. You should use beans as a substitute for beef on a regular occasion.  There are a number of kinds, so you can cook them in a crock pot, so they're ready to eat when you come back home.

The USDA suggests that beans should be eaten at least four days a week.  If you feel the gas after you have eaten the beans, try to wash them, cover them with water, bring the water to a boil, then drain and refill the bowl.

6.  Consider that an integral part of your diet if you live in a coastal area or an area where fish are all around you.  You can capture them from lakes or rivers and save money.

7.  Peanut butter is perfect for those on a budget because it's popular with almost everyone.  You can use it for sandwiches instead of eating hot dogs.  It needs cooling, but larger jars can last for weeks.

8.  You should fill in with food with a high water content.  Watermelon, vegetables and even gelatin-free sugar are all good examples.
